Cloud Nine With an Evil Smile

I performed in a kick-@$$, balls to the wall, epic performance music video this weekend with Super Geek League! I’m so thankful that I got to be part of it (seriously SGL and all of the awesome performers and musicians I rocked with, thank you)! While hanging out behind stage, I managed to type out a quick post for the C+D website:

In the Green Room

Sitting here, getting ready to perform in a music video, I find myself excited. It’s an interesting thing, finding out that the same people that you hang out with on a day to day basis, are the professionals.

Capacity and Desire, Super Geek LeagueI’m rocking red body paint, highlighted with dark accents for muscle tone. My face paint is a dark, toothy grin. I had a friend just complement me and say that I looked like something out of Wildchild World (who I absolutely idolize ). This is cloud nine with an evil smile!

We’re pushing to be big. The next big production, the next big event, the next big ‘WOW’ factor. It’s going to look and feel new.

Super Geek League and Capacity and DesireI have the ‘I’m here’ feeling. I’m finally making it. All of those things that I always dreamed of doing with my performance, I’m doing. It feels amazing. Chasing my dream while having a day job is working. The Business Degree is paying off. The constant body work and discipline is worth it.

How wonderful! I’m on the road to becoming the thing that I wanted to be as a kid. I can’t wait to see where I’ll be in a year.

Progress

Post epic weekend, I’m still managing to push my day jobs to my limit. I am now working on multiple projects, including working with the Burning Man Project and Burners Without Borders (which I’ll be posting about next week).

I started learning how to code in Python (thanks to Learn Python the Hard Way and Codecademy.com) so I’ll be able to program all of the LED projects that I have coming my way.

I have two awesome books coming in the mail this week! One is on fashion and technology (electronics sewn into fashion), and the other is on FX makeup and design. I can’t wait to get my hands on them and learn new things! I’m hoping to design something new and crazy for NYE!

Next up for the performance life:

Bootie Seattle! I’m going to try and book something between now and then. Definitely will keep everyone updated.

Performing in a New City

Seattle

Two weeks ago, I moved to Seattle. Things out here have been extremely interesting and fast paced. Everything is different and everything is similar.

It’s so green out here! I come from Colorado, a very dry and desert-like place. Colorado has amazing mountains, but very little water in comparison to Seattle. Out here, things are green year-round and right now, everything is starting to bloom.

There’s so much water out here! Every time I go over, under, across, and see a bridge, I say one of three things: Wow, Pretty, or Water! Right after that it’s usually: Look at the boats!!! It’s going to be a while before I get over the visual stimulation of this city.

The bus system in Seattle is very functional. I’m getting used to keeping a few dollars on me to be able to take the bus instead of taking my car. That being said, I’m still very happy to have a car in Seattle. It gives me the freedom to move around as I see fit.

The Job

I didn’t get the job that I was going for at SEOmoz, which is quite a bummer. Their lack of communication after the interview process is quite annoying, but other than that, it was a really fun and intense interview process. I’m slamming out the applications daily now. Amazon, Microsoft, and small to medium sized businesses, I’m applying everywhere for marketing, internet marketing, SEO, and administrative assistant positions.

I’ve decided to also try and get my own business up and running. I will be building websites for small to medium businesses using the WordPress platform. I will then maintain these websites and do freelance SEO, Social Media Marketing, and Inbound Marketing for new clients. I’m getting my portfolio up and running and I plan to announce the new business over on http://www.capacityanddesire.com/web/. I will also be doing an online fundraiser to get my new business off the ground. Please check back this Thursday for more information!

C+D Performance

I’ve been performing with New Vision Dance company for two weeks now. We have a performance coming up on May 5th and 6th. I’ll be posting about the show later. It’s been fun working with NVDC. We’ve already done a photo shoot and finished up choreography on one piece for the show.

Fire dancing is a blast out here in Seattle. There’s a really big community of fire performers out here. I’m working with NW Fire Conclave for the Burn as their Assistant Shin. We’re working on some very fun choreography and fire costumes. New choreography is leading me to learn new skills and is pushing me to develop myself as a performer.

I’m looking into getting a performance troupe going. This is a long-term project though and I’m definitely going to have to take the time to start developing costumes.

Now that I’ve finally settled in, I plan on getting back to posting 2 to 3 times a week from now on. As always, thank you for reading and please share Capacity and Desire with your friends!

LeFey Aerial

Denver readers! I’d like to showcase a new Aerial studio created and operated by my friend, Liam Lefey.

LeFey Aerial. Liam is an amazing instructor who has been an aerial performer for many years. The studio is being run in both a class format and open workout gym with a monthly membership. People with memberships get reduced prices on classes.

Here is a video of Liam performing last winter at an indoor event.

Go check out Liam’s website LeFey Aerial and contact him if you’re interested in joining LeFey Aerial.

C+D: Creating, Updating, and Branding

Capacity and Desire

The C+D brand building is starting to happen. Business cards are coming soon. Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter are all up and running with new content. Google + will be updated when everything is flushed out and ready. Seattle pages and users on Facebook are starting to connect. It’s keeping me motivated.

I’m working on my SEO skills (Thanks to Google and SEOmoz). Capacity and Desire is now connected to Google Analytics and pictures throughout the site are SEO optimized. Check out some new content out over in the Pictures|Video section of the site. The C+D Pinterest page is being used daily. Definitely check it out and follow some of the boards that you may be interested in.

I’m hoping to get some posts ready to auto update during the first week in Seattle. Currently, I’m updating the code and structure of the site. A ‘next page’ button/link will be available soon to see older posts.

Moving and Performing:

I’m moving to Seattle soon. Very soon. In fact, I’ve stopped saying months and have now moved on to saying days. You could say that I’m a little nervous about the move. You could also say that I’m extremely excited. I have so much to do before I go. It’s strange to think that I could actually leave tomorrow if I get a job that early.

I’m learning some very fun and interesting dance combinations to add to my ever-growing pool of moves. I’m hoping I can take my dance fusion class to Seattle when I get there. I am also hoping to partner up with Wren LaFeet and get some new performance material down. Performing in a new state while using the Capacity and Desire brand will be fun.

On a related dance subject, La Preuve Par 4 is a dance team that uses moves that I can recreate. Their performance video from a street team dance competition in 2011 is what I’m currently using as inspiration. Check it out below.

Be on the lookout for a new post Monday!
