So Much to Do!

Ah ah! It’s been a while. Things have been quite interesting over the past few months. I’ve been sorting some things out and have been keeping busy.

USC Events Resolution NYE Capacity and Desire and Super Geek LeagueMy performance life has been wonderfully amazing of late. I performed with Super Geek League on New Years Eve as the Ice King. Indiyana Rae Von was the Ice Queen. We ran around together rocking dance battles on stilts and taking pictures with the crowd. I really love EDM Bass fans. They’re just about the happiest people on the planet. It’s really fun when a bunch of them are running around your stilts/trying to climb you to ask how you happened to get such an awesome job.

Mid-February, I took off to perform in Denver with the Unicorns, Whomp Truck, the Fusion Factory and see my best friend perform in Bohemia. Performing with the Unicorns is always a treat. Bohemia stole the weekend with the best show I’ve seen in Denver. The whole weekend was a whirlwind of stilting, acro-yoga, acro-fire, tumbling, aerial, fire dancing, costumes, and friends. While I had a blast in Denver, I’m bummed I missed out on a Super Geek League show while I was away.

I have the beginnings of a new costume I’m calling Whomp Bot 1.0. I’m working on lighting costume design for this one and I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Capacity and Desire Fucking Unicorns Whomp Bot

My aerial skills are finally rounding out and I definitely should be able to perform with them by June.

There’s so much to write about! I’ll break this down into a few posts and start getting pictures up in the meantime.

Coming up:
USC Events Lucky 2013 with Super Geek League
More to be announced with Bassdrop, SGL, Apogaea, and more!

Working With Limitations

There are times when I find myself pushing my body to its limits. I’ve noticed that when I don’t eat healthy and then push myself, I tend to get sick. This past week has been a one-two-three knockout punch to my immune system. A combination of stress, eating incorrectly, performing, and a lack of sleep all caused me to finally go down for the count. I got a bit sick.

The stress and lack of sleep both stem from my current jobs. My day job, which I find to be quite fun, is getting slammed during this Christmas season. My department alone has done more sales in the first few days of this month than it has ever done in any previous month. Combine that with my contract jobs, which are really shifting into high-gear for the end of the year, and I’m pushing myself to my work-limit. This has caused me to fall a little behind on the learning Python coding.

Capacity and DesirePerforming at the Bootie Seattle Holiday Party was a blast. I managed to round up a decent costume. I practiced my face painting skills with some new Mac makeup. The design I used was based off of a Wildchild World photo. I didn’t have enough time to really go all the way with the makeup, but I got far enough that I was getting some pretty decent compliments throughout the night. There are some really helpful guides on face-painting techniques over on http://www.reddit.com/r/makeupaddiction.

It’s always fun to have random people come up to you later in the night and thank you for performing. I like to inspire people and it’s nice to hear it when I do. Check out the video of A+D rocking out (with a bit of dancing in the background) here.

Saturday through Wednesday afternoon were spent recovering from being sick and I almost didn’t make it to aerial. I’m really glad I did though because I ended up nailing a move that I’ve been wanting to do for a few weeks! Progress!

This next week, I plan on stepping up the Python coding, eating healthy, working out more and finishing some of the contract jobs I’m working on. The next big performance is in two weeks for NYE with Super Geek League. I can’t wait to show you all the costume I’m going to be wearing for NYE!!!

Dancing With Excitement

The Weekend

Ah! And how! Life throws so many things at me sometimes, both good and bad. My weekend was amazingly jam-packed with life! I managed to; work for a client and get their website up and running, go to a barbecue, help host and promote a very successful event at my work, go to a friend’s welcome home party, learn coding, dance at a new and fantastic venue, and go to my work’s holiday party.

Capacity and Desire DanceI always love meeting and sharing new experiences with people. The new venue that I danced in wasn’t like any place that I have danced before! It was located in what looked like an office building in the heart of downtown Seattle. You had to go down a side street, into an unmarked door, up some stairs, and then hang a random left. Boom! Out of nowhere there was a place packed with art, instruments, drinks, dancing, sound, and Burners. Take an old fashioned, gate-closing service elevator to the second floor and you’d see an open gallery populated with more dancers and art.

It was on this second floor that I got to perform. I danced! I don’t know what was up with me that night but I was really feeling the music. Aerial practice is helping me learn a whole new range of movements. After my performance, I had people coming up to thank me for putting on a show. Ah ah! I must be doing something right. It feels good to see people inspired by my movements! I’d like to thank Matt Freedman of Matt Freedman Photography for the great photo he took of me while I was dancing.

The camp, that threw the event, was made up of some of the most wonderful loving and kind people that I have had the pleasure to be around. I’ll definitely be looking them up during Burning Man 2013.

Current

Capacity and Desire FXSpeaking of Burning Man 2013, who’s excited for the new Cargo Cult theme?! I’m going to be developing a space man and alien costume for the event. I’ll be using the FX Prosthetic and Electronic Fashion Design books that just came in the mail to help me.

This week I’ll be; learning more coding with Python, working on client’s web sites, designing a costume for Bootie Seattle’s event next weekend, Aerial practice, learning makeup design, working on a new Burning Man Project and Burner’s Without Borders charity and art project, and working on my photography!

Cloud Nine With an Evil Smile

I performed in a kick-@$$, balls to the wall, epic performance music video this weekend with Super Geek League! I’m so thankful that I got to be part of it (seriously SGL and all of the awesome performers and musicians I rocked with, thank you)! While hanging out behind stage, I managed to type out a quick post for the C+D website:

In the Green Room

Sitting here, getting ready to perform in a music video, I find myself excited. It’s an interesting thing, finding out that the same people that you hang out with on a day to day basis, are the professionals.

Capacity and Desire, Super Geek LeagueI’m rocking red body paint, highlighted with dark accents for muscle tone. My face paint is a dark, toothy grin. I had a friend just complement me and say that I looked like something out of Wildchild World (who I absolutely idolize ). This is cloud nine with an evil smile!

We’re pushing to be big. The next big production, the next big event, the next big ‘WOW’ factor. It’s going to look and feel new.

Super Geek League and Capacity and DesireI have the ‘I’m here’ feeling. I’m finally making it. All of those things that I always dreamed of doing with my performance, I’m doing. It feels amazing. Chasing my dream while having a day job is working. The Business Degree is paying off. The constant body work and discipline is worth it.

How wonderful! I’m on the road to becoming the thing that I wanted to be as a kid. I can’t wait to see where I’ll be in a year.

Progress

Post epic weekend, I’m still managing to push my day jobs to my limit. I am now working on multiple projects, including working with the Burning Man Project and Burners Without Borders (which I’ll be posting about next week).

I started learning how to code in Python (thanks to Learn Python the Hard Way and Codecademy.com) so I’ll be able to program all of the LED projects that I have coming my way.

I have two awesome books coming in the mail this week! One is on fashion and technology (electronics sewn into fashion), and the other is on FX makeup and design. I can’t wait to get my hands on them and learn new things! I’m hoping to design something new and crazy for NYE!

Next up for the performance life:

Bootie Seattle! I’m going to try and book something between now and then. Definitely will keep everyone updated.
